Surgeon, John McCluer was the son of John. Some sources say he was born on 11 Nov 1750, without documentation (seek proof). He served as a surgeon during the Revolutionary War, including in Cowpens, SC.
Some sources say his mother was Nancy and others, Catherine.
He married his "cousin," Nancy Steele and had McCluer children:

29 Oct 1799, John McClure was granted 908 acres in Rockbridge Co., VA (Grantee Deed, page 474-477). It was locatrd on Buffaloe Creek adjoining land of Jos Walker, Jas Dryden and the heirs of Wm Steele. Details of Arthur McClure's 1765 deed, Nathan's, plus many to this John are herein. There are several other deeds granted to him and his family in Rockbridge, plus in neighboring Augusta Co.
On the 1810 Rockbridge Co., VA census, I found Jno McCluer with white males: 2 16-25; 3 26-44; 1 45 and over; white females: 1 16-25; 1 45 and over.
On the 7 Aug 1820 Lexington, Rockbridge Co., VA census, I found John McClure, Jr, with white males: 1 under 10; 2 26-44; white females: 3 under 10; 1 10-15 and 1 26-44.
John died 4 Jul 1822 and Nancy McCluer is the head of household on the 1830 Rockbridge Co., VA census, white female to age 70-79.
His will was recorded in Lexington, VA.
