[edit] OverviewThis article is for John Huston, son of Samuel Huston and Isabella Sharon, and lived in East Pennsboro Township, Cumberland County, PA. John wrote his will in 1808, dying about 1811. His will identifies seven children by four women:
John's will was contested in court by his widow Sarah, questioning John's competence at the time he wrote the will, as he had been drinking. The resulting disputed persisted in Pennsylvania courts for some time, eventually reaching the Pennsylvania Supreme Court in 1827. Geoffrey Hayden has examined some of this literature, drawing out additional family data. For example, he cites testimony by Nathaniel Eckels, John's brother-in-law, showing that th Isabella Eckels named in the will was his wife and that the nephew Samuel Huston was the son of John's brother William.
