From Barbara Hawkins

Sarah's three children from a previous marriage, Francis, Nell, and Fred, lived with them. They resided on Dalton Road before buying a home on 4884 Hawkins Road in 1909. Jack made himself a wooden leg; he had an accident with a saw when he was buzzing wood. He went to kick off the belt and caught his leg.

Jack is listed in the 1884 Jackson plat book in Section 18. The 1894 plat book shows he owned at least 80 acres in Section 18. He is listed in the Jackson City Directory of 1905 with sections 18, 19, and 122, with a worth of $2850. In 1910 he is shown with sections 7, 8, 18, and 100, at a value of $7850.

He is entered in the MI Pioneer and Historical Collections Book of 1881. Jack died at home. Harry (Henry) Hawkins gave the information for his death certificate.

His mother-in-law, Mary, died of paralysis (probably from a stroke) at his farm on the corner of Hawkins and Trumble Road.
