    JOHN GILLESPIE was born 1772 in poss. Cow pasture River in Augusta Co. (Bath Co.), Virginia, and died Bef. 1850 in Braxton Co., W.V. on the old Wyatt Farm.He married COMFORT GRIFFITH2,3 April 14, 1798 in Bath Co., Virginia, daughter of WILLIAM GRIFFITH and SARAH REYNOLDS.She was born 1776 in Virginia3, and died Aft. 18503.

    John Gillespie moved from Bath Co., Virginia in 1830 to Hackers Valley, West Virginia, then to Upper Flatwoods adjoining the Wyatt Farm.From file of Mary Sebring a direct decendant of Oralndo Griffith Gillespie and also Nancy Morrison. 1997

    Taken from the book " Buchanan and Gillespie of Southwest Virginia"by David Trimble:
    On November 24, 1806, theylived in Botetourt County, Virginia and sold the lands inherited from his father to Alexander Wilson for $1,000.00; on May 28, 1827, they sold their share of 130 acres belonging to the estate of William Griffith to Orlando Griffith. About 1830 they moved to Hacker's Valley in present day Webster County, West Virginia, and soon afterwards to Flatwoods in Braxton County, West Virginia, where John died before 1850.

    William Griffith provided her surety.Comfort was living with her son John, Jr. and his wife Rebecca at age 74, according to 1850 Braxton Co., Census. By Mary Sebring (Gillespie) 1997
