Bassel, was born September 29, 1895 in Belton, Bell County, Texas--the son of John Dever Bassel of Virginia, and Sarah Jane Messer, of North Carolina. He passed away in Scott and White Memorial Hospital, in Temple, Bell County, Texas, after a 4 day stay, on January 4, 1953, at the age of 57 years 3 months 5 days. Cauase of death was glioma of brain. John had served in World War I. He and his wife had a farm outside of Temple (Route 2). Mrs. John H. Bassel provided the information.
