NEW ORLEANS PASSENGER LISTS, 1820-1945 Roll T905_152 Allene Bassel Brown and her nephew, Bassel Blanton, are on the List of U.S. Citizens travelling on the S.S. Baja California from Bluefields, Nicaraguaon June 23, 1934, arriving in New Orleans, Louisiana, on June 29, 1934. Bassel is listed as being 19 years 7 months old, male, and single. He was a United States citizen, born October 26, 1914 in Coffeyville, Kansas, and returning to their home at 410 North main, Belton, Texas. Allen Bassel Brown is listed as a 40 year 2 month old female, married. She is a U.S. citizen, born April 9, 1896 in Belton, Texas, and heading home to 410 North Main, Belton, Texas. I don't know what they were doing in Nicaragua, but on the previous page of the manifest, there is a Mrs. W.E. Wells, who is moving back from Nicaragua who will be living "the rest of her life" in Belton, Texas. Perhaps she was a relative or a friend of the family.

INFORMATION TAKEN FROM TEXAS DEATH CERTIFICATE #12067 Allene Bassel Brown died March 6, 1959,of myocardial failure, due to anterior myocardial infarction in Scott & White Hospital, Temple, Bell County, Texas. She was 62 years 10 months 27 days of age. She and her husband resided at 410 No. Main, Belton. She was a housewife. Allene was born April 9, 1896 in Belton, Texas, to John Devers Bassel and Sarah Jane Messer Bassel. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Edward Pace. Removal and burial was March 7, 1959, in North Belton Cemetery in Belton. W.H. Brown Jr. provided the information.
