First school principal at Mt. Vernon, IA. A Methodist. Info. from Dale L. Coulam, 126 Robideaux Rd., Apt. S., CA 95003 (Oct.1993). She has a photo of the 25th wedding anniversary of this couple on 2 Dec. 1908. 1880 census (White Oak Twsp., Warren, IA shows her as age 20, teacher, living with her father). That census spelled her name Gessie F. Braught. Letter from Ms. Dale L. Coulam 17 Oct 1993 states that her records show Jessie married James at Warren Co., IA 26 Oct 1859, but she is confused on her data (Jessie was born 26 Nov 1859 in Warren Co., IA). However, Ms. Coulam said she had an obituary for Jessie. Letter from Orville Haines, caretaker of White Lake, SD city cemetery advised that this couple was buried there (spelled name Braucht), as well as some Braught people stones. This item caused me to consider how gravestone carvers can easily cause confusions between the C and the G in stone letter appearance (none of the other SD data I found spelled the surname any way but Braught).
