 In the 1860 census for Steuben, Warren Co., Indiana, Jesse Shankland is 43, farmer from Kentucky with $3,000 real estate and $600 personal.  His wife Elizabeth is 40 from Kentucky.  Their children are Margaret 20; Emery L. 18; George 16; Theresa 6; and Emeranda 2 -- all born in Indiana [Ia on census].  here are two other children: Permelia, 12, born Kentucky; and Cyara or Zara, 11, born Indiana - daughters of his brother William Jonas Shankland.  {p.169}
