 There is a G. E. Shankland listed in the 1890-1 Business Directory & Farmers List for Custer Co., Nebraska, in Cliff. There is also an 'Ed Shankland' listed in Triumph, Custer Co.

 According to an IGI record, Charles Edward Eugene Shankland and wife Mary had 3 children: Lawson 1890, R. A. 1891, and Zillah 1893 -- all born Custer Co., Nebraska.
 In the 1900 census for Delight township, Custer Co., Nebraska, Charles Shankland is a farmer, age 39, born Aug 1860 in Indiana, to parents from Kentucky.  He has been married 10 years.  His wife Mary is 26, born Aug. 1873 in Nebraska (father Indiana, mother Iowa) and has 3 of (5?) children living. The children are (Leavion?), male, born Feb. 1890; R. A., male, born Dec. 1891; and (Jillah?), female, born Oct. 1893 -- all in Nebraska. {T623, roll 921, p.88}
 In the 1910 census, R. A. Shankland, 19,  is working for the George W. Troyer household. R. A. died in California. Leon is living with his mother and her second husband.
In the 1920 census, Lawson 'Schankland' is in Havelock, Lancaster co., Nebraska, with wife, children, and brother Leon.
