- Bruce Allen Family History
Jeremiah was Collector and Magistrate & Judge, Madras Pres. 1879 - 1890 Queen Victoria made Jeremiah a Companion of the Indian Empire (C.I.E.) in 1890 On retirement they moved to Moffat House, Moffat, Dalbeattie, Scotland. Notes, Bruce Allen Family History Then around 1915 Jeremiah moved to his brother Alfred’s home “Hollenden” in Exmouth, until his death. Elwy HORSFALL who moved to Hollenden in 1915 also said that her Great Uncle Jeremiah was “A Perfect Dear”. At Hollenden they had a huge framed photograph of Moffat House over the drawing room mantlepiece. In the photograph Mary, Alfred HORSFALL, Jeremiah HORSFALL and their dogs and guns are in front of the house, which Elwy said they used like a shooting lodge. After Jeremiah’s death in 1920, in March each year, his cousins, the Misses HORSFALL from Harrogate, Yorkshire sent a single red rose to be placed on Jeremiah’s grave and whenever Elwy HORSFALL was at Hollenden she took the rose to his grave. - Letter, Maurine Creagh, Australia, to R B Horsfall III, 14 Nov. 1987
In 1897, Jeremiah is listed as "of Dalbeattie". He lived at Moffat near Dumfries when his older brother Alfred Horsfall retired.
