    Phyllis was his cousin the daughter of Lady Margaret RADCLIFFE nee HORSFALL and Sir Frederick M. RADCLIFFE
    Alfred received a D.S.O. in April 1917. He was killed in action in France in 1917 At the time of Alfred's death Phyllis was pregnant with their third child. On 28th September 1949 Donald Marston sold Grenville Lodge, in Shackleford, Surrey, to Phyllis Horsfall Watson of Munstead Oaks, Godalming for £6950. (the name was then changed to Snape House). Mrs. Phyllis Watson lived at Snape House, Elstead Road, Shackleford, She was widowed in 1918, and “took to her couch” thereafter, and was eventually looked after by Nanny Avis. She lived to the age of 90+. The house was named after Snape, near Aldeburgh in Suffolk, whence she hailed. Mrs. Watson lived there with the family nanny ("Nanny Avis") with a full time Housekeeper and Gardener. Her granddaughter is Samantha Eggar the actress. Mrs. Watson moved out on her 88th. birthday with "Nanny Avis" and died approximately six years later in Godalming. The house was sold 18th August 1978: Bought by Brian and Susan Appleton from Mrs. Watson for £73,000 (Source: Research by Maurine CREAGH; Shackleford website; IGI)
