Jane's records are still a bit of a mystery....It started when I found a death/ burial record found on a Saskatoon Gen Web listing for a Jean Ballantine Reid. Dod 30 Jan 1958. Burial date 1 Feb 1958. I became suspicious, checked for her obituary locally and then contacted the Saskatoon Archives. A note from Jeff O'brien , Archivist at Saskatoon Archives reads "...Jean Ballantyne Reid is definitely buried in Saskatoon, in Woodlawn Cemetery in Plot No. 46A-79-N1/2. She was 89 when she died and had been ill for a long time (likely requiring care). I was unable to discover a husband's name (her marital status was listed as "widow") or an address for her. ...The next of kin listed on her death certificate is Edith A. Lawrence, a granddaughter....I have a copy of Mrs. Reid's death certificate, which I will send to you ...

Jeff"

...To check her movements, I started consulting obituaries for her family. Her mother died in 1879, and had no obituary that mentioned survivors. I could not find an obituary(or even provincial records mention) for her sister Ellen who died in 1886....Apparently, a lot of records from that era have been lost in assorted floods and other natural disasters. ...According to her father's obituary in 1900, she was living at Neepawa Manitoba and appears to be unmarried. There is no marriage registered in Ontario for her according to the Ontario Vital Statistics records. Her sister Janet's obituary in 1928 does not mention any names but alludes to one less surviving sister than what I have on file. This leads me to believe that Jean's younger sister Marion(b.1873) had died by 1928.(a note I have placed in her record). Jane's( or Jean's) sister Isabella's obituary in 1933 gives her address as Brandon Manitoba. Her brother, James B.'s in 1951 says Sioux Lookout Ontario but the last surviving brother, William B.'s in 1953, says Brandon Manitoba. Her own obituary in 1958 lists Saskatoon, Saskatchewan as her residence. She may have moved there (or BEEN moved there) because her family lived there and she required their care. She is on the 1956 voters list in Saskatoon as living at 331 Gladmer Park Road with Edith and Len Lawrence. A William G. Reid is noted as living 334 Gladmer Rd. In June 2003, I located an online listing that gave her date of marriage. I also located what I believe is Robert Reid's date of death and age at death. My assumption currently is that Jean Ballantyne (Shearer) Reid had no children of her own but was likely a step parent to Robert's children from a previous marriage. She was undoubtedly considered to be a Grandmother to any of their children.
