Edith was a foster child to Jane. According to Edith's son, Edith was raised by"a maiden aunt". Recently discovered pictures of Edith with Janet Shearer suggest that the maiden aunt was undoubtedly Jane. Edith's son confirms that Edith was born in 1916. According to her daughterinlaw, Edith's brother also came to stay with Jane and Edith but the flu epidemic claimed both him and his grandfahter. It was pointed out that Edith surname was not Reid as noted in our records but was actually Lightfoot
