Revolutionary War Pension Information

Information from “Virginia/West Virginia Genealogical Data from Revolutionary War Pension and Bounty Land Warrant Records”, Vol. 6, compiled by Patrick G. Wardell, Lt. Col. U.S. Army Ret. :

Williamson, James, born 5/27/1752 in Augusta County, Virginia; entered service 1778 in Rockbridge County, Virginia where he resided, in Virginia company; served in Battles of Longbridge, Richmond, Petersburg & Siege of Yorktown; moved after Revolutionary Way service to mother's home in Rockbridge County, Virginia; moved to Washington County, Virginia, thence to Montgomery County, Kentucky, thence Warren County, Kentucky, thence Allen County, Kentucky where Pensioned in 1833; John Bartlett filed affidavit there in 1834 "he served in REvolutionary War with soldier, and knew him for many years"; soldier died 11/61/38 (s/b 11/16/38?); married 10/7/1788 Nancy McCorkle, Botetourt County, Virginia by Reverend Edward Crawford, per certificate 1843 by that County Clerk of Court Ferdinand Woltz, witness Justice of the Peace Oliver Callahan; widow applied for pension age 69 in Allen county, Kentucky, 1839, and pension application rejected, not a widow at time of passage of 1838 Pension Act; John Sarver & wife Mary filed affidavit there "then knew soldier and wife in Botetourt County, Virginia, before & after 1787 & affiants moved to Allen County, Kentucky soon after soldier & wife were their neighbors there; widow died 4/15/43; daughter Mary M. Hinton gave power of attorney there in 1852 to agent to apply for pension, & pension application rejected; daughter Mary gave power of attorney to attorney in 1856 there to agent to apply for pension, & pension application rejected, proof of soldier's service not available at pension office, since Revolutionary War rolls then at bookbinders; query letter in file 1932 from Mrs. Cora E. Nye, Wellesley, Massachusetts says a Virginia Revolutionary soldier James Williamson, Sr., married (1) Elizabeth Hall and (2) 1791, Elizabeth Jackson of Milam, & he had son James who married Deborah, querier 5th generation from soldier James Sr; Pension Office responded it had no Pension file on this James Sr. F-R11604, R2597. (Note: the 1932 Query letter does not appear to be for this James Williamson).
