~ James is noted in the 1841 Census as 11 years of age, living with his parents and siblings, in Lower Road, Helston.

~ James never married, and lived with his sister Mary and her family and worked as an accountant and general agent for the family business. James was still living with the family in 1871, and described as unmarried, aged 40.

~ A family descendant described his occupation as an insurance agent and accountant. Sister Mary and her husband had inherited the lease on the Golden Lion Inn from her mother Jane. They sold this lease and began an omnibus company, and employed Mary's brother James.
