LEGAL: 1778 -- November 21, James and his wife, Elizabeth, deeded 120acres on the South side of the Little River to their son, John, for Ð120(pounds sterling). This land was a part of their original land grant(Orange County, NC Deed Book 2, page 8).

LEGAL: 1784 -- November 9, James Murdaugh, Jr. received a land grant of200 acres on the waters of the Little River. The chain bearers were ThadJordan and William Wiley (Sheet File No. 1626, Land Grant Office,Raleigh, NC).

LEGAL: 1788 -- March 17, James Murdock, Jr. entered a claim for 80 acreson the waters of the Little River, adjoining the land of William Hanneyand Little John ___. The chain bearers were Charles Ray and WilliamMurdock. This grant was not issued until June 10, 1799. At that time, adeed from the State of North Carolina was recorded (Orange County, NCDeed Book 8, page 141).

LEGAL: 1795 -- February 7, James Murdaugh, Jr. and wife, Margaret, deeded200 acres on both sides of the North Fork of the Little River to JohnMcCullah for Ð50. This was the land grant received in 1784 (OrangeCounty, NC Deed Book 5, page 186).

LEGAL: 1798 -- April 5, James Murdock, Jr. received a land grant of 36acres on the waters of the Little River. The chain bearers were CharlesRay and William Murdock (Sheet File No. 2289, Land Grant Office, Raleigh,NC). A deed from the State of North Carolina was also issued (OrangeCounty, NC Deed Book 8, page 140).

LEGAL: 1799 -- June 10, James Murdock, Jr. received a land grant of 80acres on the waters of the Little River. The chain bearers were CharlesRay and William Murdock (Sheet File No. 2403, Land Grant Office, Raleigh,NC). A deed from the State of North Carolina was also issued (OrangeCounty, NC Deed Book 8, page 141).

LEGAL: 1810 -- November 12, Robert Murdock of Randolph County, son ofJohn who died in 1781, deeded 120 acres on the South side of the LittleRiver to his uncles, James and William Murdock, for $600. This was thesame land that James and Elizabeth deeded to his father in 1778. It was apart of the original land grant from Lord Granville (Orange County, NCDeed Book 15, page 396).

LEGAL: 1815 -- April 13, David Murdock, son of Ann Murdock, deeded hisinterest in the 150 acres left to him by his grandmother Elizabeth to hisuncle, James Murdock, Jr., for $100 (Orange County, NC Deed Book 16, page125).

LEGAL: 1816 -- November 20, Ann and David deeded 150 acres on the NorthFork of the Little River to James, Jr. for $250 (Orange County, NC DeedBook 16, page 77).

LEGAL: 1819 -- December 3, James, Jr. deeded 150 acres on the waters ofthe Little River to his son, John, for $400. This was the land he boughtfrom Ann and David in 1816. J. R. Murdock was witness to the signatureand the signature was proved in court by Andrew Murdock's oath. J. R. andAndrew were James' sons (Orange County, NC Deed Book 21, page 532).

LEGAL: 1821 -- May 20, James Murdock, Sr. (previously called James, Jr.)deeded 121 3/4 acres on the waters of the Little River to John Douglasfor $450 (Orange County, NC Deed Book 23, page 545).

LEGAL: 1824 -- February 26, James Murdock, Jr. deeded 3 acres on thewaters of the South Fork of the Little River to Joseph W. Allison, hisson-in-law. for $15. Witnesses were David Allison and Andrew Murdock(Orange County, NC Deed Book 21, page 286).

MARRIED: 1790 -- June 10, James Murdock, Jr., son of James and Elizabeth,married Elizabeth Margaret Gray, daughter of Robert Gray. Robert Gray wasthe bondsman (Orange County, NC Marriage Book).

WILL: 1825 -- James Murdock, Jr. died. His heirs were his daughters,Polly, wife of James Cozart, Betsy, wife of Jacob Horner, Susan, wife ofJoseph Allison, and his sons, Robert G., James R. and Andrew. A fourthson, John, was not in the will but was in the estate records in theArchives in Raleigh. When the estate was probated, there was a note for$125 to Andrew Gray. James R. Murdock was the principal and JamesMurdock, Sr. and William Murdock were named as security (Orange CountyWill Book).

WILL: 1825 -- March 16, James Murdock, Jr., by sheriff, deeded 200 acresto his widow, Margaret. His estate owed $715. The land was auctioned offand the highest bidder was Margaret (Orange County, NC Deed Book 21, page643).
