Memphis Police Lieutenant James Roy Marshall, 45, formerly of Steele, died at his home Wednesday, August 20, after a three-month illness.
Services were held at 2:30 p.m. Friday, August 22, in Memphis at Forest Hill Funeral Home East. Interment was in Forest Hill Cemetery South.
Lt. Marshall joined the police department in October, 1955. During his career he served in the theft and robbery squads and was one of the first to serve on the emergency squad. He was promoted to lieutenant February 1, 1964. His latest assignment was as a field officer with the North Precinct.
He was a member of the Tennessee-Mississippi Sheriffs and Peace Officers Association. He was a Mason and the son of the late Viola and Elery Marshall.
He leaves his widow, Mary Marshall; a son, Terry Wayne Marshall of Southaven; four sisters, Helen Bledsoe, West Memphis, Golda Northern, Memphis, June Haggard, Dixon, Cal., and Beryl Ward, Atwater Cal.; and two grandchildren.
