[edit] Name and RelationshipsName: JAMES Jackson Irwin. Source is a photo of his 1841 grave marker in Strong Cemetery, Sundridge, Ontario. He was called Jim. Parents: William Irwin and Frances Jackson. Source is Jim's 1902 and 1921 marriage registrations. Jim Irwin was Elmer Irwin's uncle. [edit] Personal History1877 - Birth: James Jackson Irwin was born on March 22, 1877 in Ontario. Source is 1901 and 1911 Canada census. Unable to find a birth registration. 1878 - Death of Father: On March 26, 1878, when Jim was 1, his father, William Irwin, died suddenly. Source is William Irwin's 1878 death registration. 1881 - Census: On April 4, 1881, Jim 4, was living on the farm outside of Magnetawan with his mother, Frances Irwin 34, older sister Annie 7 and brother Robert 6. Source is 1881 Canada census. 1881 - Marriage of Mother: Later that year, on September 12, 1881, Jim's mother, Frances Irwin 35 married William Harrison 28 in Magnetawan, Ontario. Source is her 1881 marriage registration. 1891 - Census: In 1891, Jim 12, was living on the farm outside of Magnetawan with his step-father, William Harrison, mother Frances Harrison, sister Annie 17, brother Robert 14 and step brothers, John and David Harrison. All of the Irwin children were enumerated as Harrisons. Source is 1891 Canada census. 1892 - Death of Step-Father: On April 28, 1892, William Harrison 39, drowned in the Magnetawan River near Kneophflie Rapids during a log drive. Following this tragedy, Frances continued to live on the Magnetawan farm with her children. Source is D. Smyth My Irwin Family unpublished. 1901 - Census: On March 31, 1901, Jim 24, was living with his brother Robert Irwin 26, his mother, Frances Harrison 54, and his two step-brothers, John H. and David G. Harrison, on the farm near Magnetawan. He was single. Source is 1901 Canada census. 1902 - Marriage 1: On Christmas Eve, 1902, Jim 25, Farmer, married Jennie Elizabeth Wilson, two days after her 17th birthday, farmers daughter. They planned to reside in Chapman Township, Parry Sound. Source is their 1902 marriage registration. 1911 - Census: On June 23, 1911, Jim 34, was living with Jennie Irwin 25 on a farm on Lot ? indistinct, Concession 9, Chapman Township. They had one son, Leonard 10. Frances Harrison 64, James' mother, widowed, also lived with them. Source is 1911 Canada census. This farm was located at Lot 35-36 Concession 9, Chapman Township. Source is his mother, Frances Harrison's 1921 death registration [5]. 1918 - Death of Wife: On December 22, 1918, Elizabeth Jane Irwin 32, died when the Spanish Influenza hit the area around Magnetawan, Parry Sound. Source is her 1918 death registration. 1921 - Census: On June 27, 1921, Jim 44, Farmer, widower, was living on his farm in Chapman Township with his mother Frances Harrison 74, widow, and his 2 sons: Leonard Herbert Irwin 20 and Hugh Irwin, 4. Source is 1921 Canada census. 1921 - Death of Mother: On October 13, 1921, Frances Harrison 74, died of carcinoma of the stomach at James Irwin's farm in Chapman Township and was to be buried in Chapman Cemetery the next day on Oct 15, 1921. James Irwin was the informant. Source is her 1921 death registration. NOTE: Have not been able to locate a grave marker in Chapman Cemetery - nothing under Jackson, Irwin or Harrison. CHECK INTERNMENT RECORDS 1921 - Marriage 2: On November 17, 1921, Jim 44, Farmer, widower, married Francis Harrison, 36, spinster. They planned to be married at Pearseley, Parry Sound and live in Magnetawan. This was Jim's second marriage. Witnesses were Miss Alice Harrison, Pearseley and George Harrison, Pearseley. Source is their 1921 marriage registration. 1941 - Death and Burial: In 1941, Jim Irwin 74, died. He was buried in Strong Cemetery, Sundridge.
