Name and Relationships

Name: Marriage registration lists her given names as Jennie Elizabeth but her death registration lists it as Elizabeth Jane. She was called Jennie. The name on her grave marker is Jane E. Irwin. In the 1891 census, she is listed as Jennie Irwin. In the 1901 census, her name is listed as Elizabeth J. In the 1911 census, her name is clearly listed as Jennie.

Personal History

1886 - Birth: Elizabeth Jane Wilson was born on February 13, 1886. The 1911 census lists her birth date as March, 1886. Cannot locate a birth registration. The 1901 census lists her birth as 13 Feb 1886. Death certificate says she was 31 when she died on Dec 22, 1918. Her grave marker says she was 32.

1901 - Census: On March 31, 1901, Elizabeth J. 15, was living with her father, William Wilson, 57 and mother Elizabeth L. 55, and 4 brothers. She was the youngest of the family. They lived in Chapman Township. Source is 1901 Canada census.

1902 - Marriage: On Christmas Eve, 1902, Jennie Elizabeth Wilson 17, married James Jackson Irwin 25. They planned to reside in Chapman Township, Parry Sound. Source is their 1902 marriage registration. NOTE: It appears that Jennie was married two days after she turned 17.

1911 - Census: On June 23, 1911, Jennie 25 was living on the farm with her husband James Jackson, 34, her son Leonard 14, and her mother-in-law Frances Harrison, 64. Source is 1911 Canada census.

1918 - Death and Burial: Jennie Irwin 31, died on December 22, 1918. The immediate cause of death was pneumonia. Source is her 1918 death certificate. This was when the Spanish Influenza hit the area around Magnetawan, Parry Sound. In the Magnetawan area, between the beginning of November or so and the end of December, 1918, at least 15-20 people died. The vast majority of these people were younger than 35. J.J. Irwin was the informant of her death. At the time of her death, her address was listed as Magnetawan. Jennie was buried in Chapman Community Cemetery.
