In a 1963 letter from James' daughter Pearl to Trudy Rhoton, Pearl states that her father James was born near Campbellsville, KY. According to the Rhoton to Abshier letter and information of March, 2003, James King is found in the 1870 census for Nelson County, Ketucky on page 180, #201. According to the Rhoton to Abshier letter and information of March 2003, he was a school teacher. In the 1880 census it appears that he is still living with his mother and father, and his occupation is listed as "teaches school". According to a letter from Ms. Pearl Hogan to Ms. Gertrude Rhoton of Arizona (no date on letter), Bartholomew and Ida had only one child, a daughter named Pearl.
