Facts and Events
Pearl Edwards Gaddie was born in 1893 in Kentucky and spent her life there. She was the only child of James K. Gaddie and Sallie Edwards Gaddie (who was also known as Ida). She lived with them on the farm during her childhood years. It is likely that she helped care for her mother who passed in January of 1916 after suffering from chronic nephritis for several years. Pearl married the following year. She and her husband, William Penn Hogan settled on a farm after their wedding. They had their first child, William D., in 1918. Three other children followed shortly thereafter. The 1930 census shows Pearl, William P. and their four children living on a farm in Raywick. The children are: William, James, Virginia and Paul. Pearl began her schooling at a young age. The 1900 census indicates that she can read but cannot write. That changed shortly as both the 1920 and 1930 census establish that Pearl and her husband were literate. References
