Service

Private James Dale enlisted on 1 Jul 1862 in Bath County, Kentucky. ^[2]: James first served in the Company D Coleman Company, and R. G. Stoners Batallion. This battalion was merged into the 9th Cavalry Regiment [also called 4th Mounted Rifles] that was organized in December, 1862, by consolidating Breckinridge's and Stoner's Kentucky Cavalry Battalions ^[3]:He also served with the : 9th Regiment, Kentucky Cavalry accessed on 10 March 2022 under Colonel WLP Breckennage was and Lutenant Colonel Rly Stoner. ^[2]

He was captured on 16 August 1863 for being a Confederate Soldier by the 14 Kentucky Cavalry.

Imprisonment Date: 18 August 1863 in the Bath County Jail in Owingsville, Kentucky.

He was transferred to Camp Douglas in Chicago, Illinois 24 Feb 1865. ^[4]

Parole

James was taken to Fort McHenry in Baltimore, Maryland on 24 February 1865 and was paroled to Richmond, Virginia ^[2][5]

James was Born 13 Mar 1837 In Montgomery County, Kentucky to Robert Dale and Mary Susan (Johnson) Dale ^[6]

In 1850, he was 13 years old and lived in Montgomery, Kentucky with his mother and siblings. ^[7]

James married Mary Ann Clow on 08 Nov 1857 in Bath County, Kentucky. ^[8][9]

Together they had at least five children:

• Rose E Dale (1876-) ^[12]

James and Mary raised their family and tobacco in Bath County, Kentucky. ^{[10][11][12][9][15]}

In 1860, he was 23 years old and lived in Bath County, Kentucky with his wife and 2 children. His combined value of home and property was $1320.00 ^[10]

In 1870, he was 32 years old and lived in Sharpsburg, Kentucky, with his wife, Mary, 2 sons, and a daughter. ^[11]

In 1880, he was 43 years old and lived in Sharpsburg, Kentucky, with his wife, Mary, 2 sons, and daughter. ^[12]

In 1900, he was 63 years old and lived in Sharpsburg, Kentucky, with his wife, Mary. ^[9]

In 1910, he was 73 years old and lived in Sharpsburg, Kentucky, with his daughter; Sudie and grandson; Clay Duncan. He was listed as being a widower and as having his own income. ^[15]

James applied for his Military Pension on 12 Jun 1912. He was living in Bath County at that time. ^[2]

In 1920, he was 83 years old and lived in Sharpsburg, Kentucky. ^[16]

Death

He passed away 27 Feb 1927 in Nicholas, Kentucky, USA. ^[6][17] He was laid to rest on March 1st in the Wilson Graveyard in Montgomery County, Kentucky.^[1]
