"Elijah C. Byers was born in Washington County, Maryland, August 1, 1831, and is one of the five children of Samuel S. and Nancy L. The children are Saml. B. 12; John W. 10; Frank 8; Moses 6; Elwood 4; and Loar 1 male --- all born 'Ia' [Indiana].  In the 1880 census for Steuben, Warren Co., Indiana, Jacob Byers is a farmer, age 54 from Maryland (parents Maryland).  His wife Margarette is 53 from Ohio (father Virginia, mother Ohio). The children are Samuel B., 32, farmer; John W. 29, farmer; Mose 26, farmer, divorced; Belle 14; Minnie 12 -- all born in Indiana.  Also in the household are Emma J.
