Henry appears in the 1861 census with his parents and siblings at Mill in Sidlesham. Ten years later, the family was living a few miles away at Aldingbourne.

Henry's father died in 1876, when Henry was 21 years old. The 1881 census finds Henry working as a bricklayer and living with his widowed mother in the town of Bognor. He has yet to be researched after 1881.
