Facts and Events
Fanny Chaffer was baptised on 14th December 1862 at Sidlesham in Sussex, daughter of Elizabeth Eliza Chaffer, formerly Churcher, and her husband George Chaffer, a miller and carter, who sometimes used his stepfather's surname, Grant. Fanny appears in the 1871 census living with her parents and siblings at Aldingbourne in Sussex. Fanny's father died in 1876, when Fanny was thirteen years old. The 1881 census finds Fanny living in the town of Bognor with her widowed mother, and working as a domestic servant. She has yet to be researched after 1881.
