Caroline Elizabeth Chaffer was baptised on 16th June 1858 at Sidlesham in Sussex, daughter of Elizabeth Eliza Chaffer, formerly Churcher, and her husband George Chaffer, a miller and carter, who sometimes used his stepfather's surname, Grant. Caroline appears in the 1861 census living with her parents at Mill in Sidlesham. By 1871 the family was living a few miles away at Aldingbourne.

Caroline has yet to be researched after 1871.
