AGED FARMER WAS FOUND DEAD IN BED
Henry Baker, 81, prominent and highly esteemed Sandusky CO farmer was discovered dead in bed at his home three and half miles east of Fremont on the Maumee pike Monday morning shortly after 6 o'clock. Death due to heart trouble, is thought, occurred several hours previous, though the exact time is unknown.

When Mr. Baker failed to arise at his customary time, his wife, Mrs. Elizabeth Baker, went to his room to call her husband and made the discovery of the lifeless remains of the husband. He had been suffering from heart trouble for the past year and had suffered previous light attacks. He was probably stricken some time after retiring and died before being able to summon aid.

Mr. Baker appeared in his usual health Sunday and was up and about the house and farm and posed with granddaughter for a picture, taken by his son, Chester Baker, during the afternoon. He retired early Sunday evening without complaint of any illness and the discovery of the lifeless remains Monday morning was a great shock to the family as well as the many friends of the deceased.

He leaves besides the widow, two daughters, Mrs. Ella Young, of Green Creek; Mrs. Bert Ferguson, of Ballville; five sons, Ralph of Clyde; Burton of Norwalk; George of Toledo; Arthur of Vancouver, B. B. and Chester who resides at home. One sister Mrs. Catherine Hush of Lindsey; one brother, John Baker of Green Creek.

                                    MEEK BOOK

HENRY BAKER, who carries on general farming in Green Creek Township, Sandusky CO, OH, owns sixty-two acres of excellent land, the home farm, situated on the east side of the Green Spring and Maumee Turnpike roads. Mr. Baker was born in Pickaway CO, OH, seven miles east of Circleville, June 14, 1834, and is a son of John B. and Mary Gephart Baker.

Henry Baker was seven years old when his parents came to Sandusky CO. He helped his father clear the Jackson Township land and just as soon as old and strong enough, began to perform farm labor. He obtained his education in an old log schoolhouse near by, where the pupils sat on rough hewn logs, supported by pegs driven through for legs. He remained at home until his marriage and for several years following it and then purchased his present farm from his father. The old log house in which he was reared he replaces by a substantial frame one, but he can remember awakening many mornings, in the old place, finding snow on his bed which had sifted through the logs. Mr. Baker has always been a farmer and is numbered with the good managers of his sections.

On December 9, 1860, Mr. Baker was married to Miss Elizbeth Hawk, a daughter of Joseph and Sarah Tillotson Hawk. She was born and reared in Green Creek Township. To this marriage seven children were born, all of whom survive, and through whom Mr. and Mrs. Baker have become grandparents of a large and intelligent family. Ella married August Young and lives in Green Creek Township with their seven children, Hazel, Henry, Bessie, Jay, Esther, Herbert, and Ernest; Ralph who married Lavina McKelvey, lives in Sandusky Township, and they have two children, Frank and Jennie; George, who resides at Toledo, OH, married Matilda Rice, and they have five children, Hazel, Robert, Walter, Margaret and Ivan; Burton, who lives in Norwalk, OH, married Anna Goughtsletter, and they have one child, Mabel; Ada, who married Bert Ferguson, residing in Ballville Township, has three children, Grace, Rollin, Mary; Arthur, now a resident of Idaho, who served in the Philippine Islands; and Chester, who marries Margaret Ferguson, resides at home and manages the farm for his father. Mr. Baker and family are members and supporters of the Lutheran Church. Mr. Baker stands as one of the representative men of Green Creek Township.
