After Protracted Illness, Mrs. George Hawk, Prominent Green Creek Woman Died Tuesday from Apoplexy. The many friends of Mrs. George Hawk were grieved to learn of her death which occurred Tuesday morning at 9 o'clock at Sr. Stamm's Hospital. Mrs. Hawk had been critically ill for the past two months and all that care and human skill could do was tried to relieve her suffering. On Monday morning she was stricken with apoplexy, death resulting in a short time thereafter and in her last moments she was surrounded by the member of her family. The deceased, who maiden name was Rebecca Baker, was the youngest daughter of John Baker and Anna Marie Gephart Baker, early pioneers of the CO, and she was born in Jackson twp. December 25, 1848, being aged at the time of her death 61 years, 5 months and 20 days. When 10 years old Mrs. Hawk removed with her parents to Green Creek township where she was married and where, with a short interruption, she lived her lifetime, spending her last days on her parents old homestead. Mrs. Hawk was distinctively a home woman, given her best efforts and devotion to her home where she was ever the devoted and affectionate wife and mother. She also was always ready to give a helping hand wherever her assistance or sympathy was needed and she will be mourned by a large circle of acquaintances as well as by her immediate family. Mrs. Hawk is survived by her husband, who is in very feeble health, seven children and two grandchildren. The children are Miss Neva, William and John, living at home, Chauncey, residing in Fremont, Miss Nettie of Clyde, Charles of Jackson Michigan and Mrs., Leroy Deemer west of Fremont, She also leaves three brother and two sisters. They are Henry and John Baker of Green Creek Township, W. H. Baker of Mammoth Springs Ark. and Miss Mary Baker of Clyde and Mrs. Catherine Hush of Lindsey. Burial in Dana Cemetery, Green Creek Township. |
