There is no doubt that Harriet "Hattie" Gunn is the mother of Gladys McGuigan. William Arthur McGuigan, Gladys's first husband, was her father. Hattie and William would have only been 18 years old when Gladys was born. In less than 3 years Hattie and William were divorced (1897). Some descendants of Gladys McGuigan claim her mother's name was Frances, and also claim her parents were Robert and Harriet Gunn. However, there's no evidence that Robert and Harriet had a daughter named Frances and she doesn't appear in the family's census records.
