From Mommie's written notes: "Grandpa Gillam was an early pioneer in Indiana. He and Grandpa Beard both fought in the Civil War. I think Grandpa Beard was an early pioneer, too, as I know he had three brothers living in Northern Indiana so the family must have come to Indiana early."
Also, she has him listed in her mini genealogy chart as William Harvey Beard. I don't find this other places, I believe.

"When the township (Jefferson) was first organized, in 1845, the law provided for a board of three trustees. When the new law, providing for one trustee, became operative in 1859, the elected trustee (began serving) on the first Monday in April and served one year. . . .Harvey Beard was elected trustee on the first Monday in April, 1890 but there had been another change in the law which provided that the townbship trustee should hold his office four years, beginning on the first Monday in August following his election in April Mr. Beard held the office until the spring of 1894, when he resigned. . ." p. 350
