When Dave Barkman passed away Creese stayed on the farm to keep house for Stepson James Barkman.Jim's wife, Elizabeth Schwhoildknecht, had died in 1902. "County Gold Star Mother Sails - One Middletown Valley Gold Star Mother, Mrs. Lucretia Brandenburg, of Wolfsville, is listed among the Maryland widows and mothers who sailed from New York the first part of this week to visit the graves of their sons and husbands who were killed on the battlefields of France during the World War. The trip is being made at the expense of the government. Mrs. Brandenburg, whose son, Harry Hooper, was killed in battle in France, is the only Frederick County woman making the trip at this time." | S12 (This is an error on the part of the newspaper reporter. It was not Harry who died overseas, but the son John William Hooper, Jr)
