Hannah Scott was born on 24th January 1895 at Kelso in Roxburghshire, daughter of Jane Scott, formerly Robson, and her husband William Scott, a gardener. Hannah had a twin sister, Elizabeth, born an hour before her. She also had an older sister called Mary Jane, who was nearly three years older than her. When the twins were still very small the family left Kelso and moved to Otterburn in the parish of Morebattle, where the next daughter, Margaret, was born in August 1896.
Hannah (seated on the ground in the lighter dress) with her parents and sisters. Hannah appears in the 1901 census living with her parents and sisters at Otterburn. Her parents and youngest sister were still there in the 1911 census, but by that time Hannah had left home and was working as a cook at Old Graden House in the neighbouring parish of Linton. By 1921 Hannah had moved to Edinburgh, where she was working as a housemaid at 8 Dick Place.
Sometime between 1915 and 1925 Hannah's parents left Morebattle and moved to Dollar in Clackmannanshire, where they lived at Myrtle Cottage, Argyll Street. In 1925 Hannah gave birth to a daughter. The girl's father had apparently been a workman who came to do some work when electricity was installed at the big house where Hannah was then working, but he had disappeared when Hannah told him she was pregnant. At first, Hannah's parents helped out in looking after their granddaughter in Dollar. However, in February 1926 Hannah's mother died, after which Hannah and her father were no longer able to look after the little girl. She spent some time in a children's home and was later adopted.
Hannah's father died in 1940, aged 85.
In 1941, aged 46, Hannah married a woollen mill labourer named Peter Forgie. They were married for about ten years and lived together at 22a High Street in Dollar. Peter died in 1951.

Hannah's daughter came to Dollar to see what she could discover, not realising that Hannah was still alive. She went to look in the cemetery, where she was surprised to be recognised by a friend of the family and given directions to her mother's home. Hannah was then in turn surprised to discover waiting outside her house her daughter, plus a son-in-law and two grandchildren she didn't know she had. Over the next decade Hannah and her daughter stayed in close contact, with Hannah visiting her daughter's home in England and her daughter and her family making regular visits up to Dollar.
Hannah died at her home at 12 Devon Road in Dollar on 21st September 1975, aged 80. Her daughter was the informant for her death.
