Elizabeth Scott was born on 24th January 1895 at Gray's Close in the town of Kelso, Roxburghshire. She was the daughter of Jane Scott, formerly Robson, and her husband William Scott, a gardener. Elizabeth was a twin, being born an hour before her sister Hannah. She also had an older sister called Mary Jane, who was nearly three years older than her. When the twins were still very small the family left Kelso and moved to Otterburn in the parish of Morebattle, where the next daughter, Margaret, was born in August 1896.

Elizabeth appears in the 1901 census living with her parents and sisters at Otterburn. Her parents and youngest sister were still there in the 1911 census, but by that time Elizabeth had left home and was working as a domestic servant at Greenlees Farm in the neighbouring parish of Linton. In 1921 she was living with her parents who had moved to Blairingone in Kinross-shire.

Elizabeth did not marry. She later returned to Roxburghshire, and worked as a ward maid. Her last home was Wideopen Cottage at Morebattle, close to where she had been brought up. She died at the Singleton Hospital in Melrose on 5th November 1970, aged 75.
