My NOTES for Guy Walston as of April 5, 2005:

1885 July 29 - Guy Walston was born, probably on their farm in Big Goose Valley, near Beckton and Big Horn City, Sheridan Co., WY. This is where his parents Philip Walston and Lydia Lloyd lived in 1885.

1886 Nov 9 - Guy was about 16 mo. old when his mother died shortly after giving birth to her last child, Earl Lloyd Walston on Nov. 9. Who took care of Guy right after his mother died is unknown.

1888 - Guy's father married "Miss" Annie Jordan, who had a son Max Jordan. This marriage did not last long. In May 1890, Philip Walston ran an item in the Sheridan WY newspaper that said he was no longer responsible for any of her debts. Sheridan could find no record of a divorce or an anullment, but they did separate, whether is was legall or not has not been determined, but apparently she did not die.

1893 - Philip Walston left Sheridan, WY. Guy Walston was 8 years old in 1893. I do not know if Guy was left in Wyoming or if he went with his father to Utah. I think in Bess Walston's family history, she said that her father left his youngest sons with their older brother Conrad. If correct, Conrad was only 16 in 1893. It is possible that Guy and Earl went to Utah to live with their father at some time between 1893-1898. This time period is somewhat of a mystery. Philip Walston lived in Salt Lake City briefly in 1893, then went to live and work in Park City, Utah from 1896-1898.

1896 - Philip Walston, 53, of Park City, Utah, married "Miss" Adelia Edwards in Salt Lake City, Utah.

1898 - Philip Walston said that in 1898 he left Utah and moved to Salubria, Washington Co., ID. About 1899 (he was a carpenter) it is said that he helped build the Inland Hotel in Salubria. The hotel was owned and operated by B.B. Day and his wife.

1900 census Salubria, Idaho. Household of Philip "Walstein". Living with him is his daughter Bessie, son Guy, and son Earl. Guy is 14-15 years old.

About 1901, Philip Walston said he moved to Council, Idaho. I assume that his son Guy, now 15 or 16, went with him.

1907 - Guy Walston was 20 years old.

1909 Dec 7 - Guy Walston, 24, a resident of Fruitvale, married Laura Robertson Ryals, also a resident of Fruitvale. She was a young widow with a 5 year old son, Everett Ryals born in 1904. Witnesses to the marriage were Philip Walston, groom's father, and George Robertson, the bride's father. The marriage took place in Fruitvale. The marriage record is on file at the Weiser, Washington Co, ID, courthouse. Adams Co was not created from Washington Co. until 1911.

1910 census, Council, Washington Co., ID. Guy and his new bride Laura are living with Guy's father Philip Walston in Council. Guy is an engineer at the Wilkie Sawmill (it was near Fruitvale). Per the 1910 census, Laura is the mother of one child, but the child is not living with them. Her son Everett Ryals was living with his Ryals grandfatherin 1910.

1914 April 24 - news item in the Adams County LEADER. Guy Walston has recently purchased the Careff property -- expects to move there.

1914 Dec 4 - Adams County LEADER. Guy Walston of Fruitvale. Dale Fisk then added "Con Walston lived west of McMahan's Bluff south of the river".

At sometime after 1910, Guy and Laura Walston must have divorced. Adams Co. Clerk could find no divorce record.

1918 January 10 (date) - letter from Guy Walston to his sister Elizabeth Walston Day. At the top of the letter above the date is the word "Council". At the end of the letter, Guy signs it, "Wilkey Mill, Dale". Apparently he started the letter while in Council and finished it while at work at the Wilkie Mill in Dale. The community of Dale was out on Hornet Creek. Fred Wilkie started a sash mill there in 1884 and it operated for many, many years -- obviously it was still operating in January 1918. As of April 2005, this is the last document found for Guy Walston. The letter was found by Joan Lyon when going through the family history items in the possession of Pat Day Lord (daughter of Elizabeth Day Walston). Pat died in January 2005.

1919 May - Laura Walston, a resident of Council, Idaho, married James A. Ward, also a resident of Council, Idaho. They married in Cascade, Valley Co., Idaho, which is adjacent to Adams Co., so for some reason they did not marry in the county in which they lived.

c. 1920 - Guy Walston left a trunk at Conrad and Margaret Walston's when their daughter Irene (b. 1918 in Fruitvale) was young. Apparently, he then left the area and was never seen again. As of Aug 2004, I do not know if Guy and Laura Walston divorced or if he just left her and never returned... so she was able to remarry. WHAT HAPPENED TO GUY WALSTON IS A MYSTERY TO ME.

WORTH NOTING: I found this marriage on the internet. 1921 July 16. Guy A. Walston married Edith Brown in Lewiston, Nez Perce Co., ID. Marriage Vol. 6, page 534. I do not know who this man is. He may or may not be our Guy Walston. I need to order a copy of this marriage.

______________ MORE on Laura Robertson Ryals Walston Ward.

Laura married her third husband James A. Ward in May 1919. Per the 1920 census, they were living in Fruitvale, Adams Co., Idaho. James Ward was 41 and she was 34. Living with them is Everett RILES (sic), age 16 born in Idaho. This was her son Everett Ryals.

1924 - news item in the Adams Co. LEADER. Everett Ryals to start a grocery store in the Reams Building in Fruitvale.

1924 - news item in the Adams Co. LEADER. James Ward to move his family and live in back of the grocery store in Fruitvale.

1924 - James Ward, merchant, appointed postmaster of Fruitvale.

1925 - Everett Ryals appointed postmaster of Fruitvale.

1925 June 6 - Everett Ryals, 21, married Bertha M. Spear (per Adams Co. LEADER, June 12, 1925, issue).

1930 census to do. I do not have further information on Laura or James Ward. But I do know that her son Everett Ryals became a prominent man and inherited a lot of property.

When Chris and I went to Council and Fruitvale in the 1980s, we met old timers who knew of the Ryals family and his son Melvin. Melvin apparently inherited everything. We also heard a rumor that Guy and Laura Walston owned a building in Council and that somehow she ended up with the building. No one knew or remembered what happened to Guy Walston.
