George Rowe was baptised on 8th November 1818 at Leighton Buzzard in Bedfordshire, son of a lace maker named Susannah Rowe, formerly Perry, and her husband Samuel Rowe, an ironmonger. George was baptised the same day as his brother Samuel, who was presumably his twin.
George married on 25th October 1840, when he was about 22, to Ann Pratt. They had nine children together between 1841 and 1860, although at least two appear to have died young. The 1841 census finds them living next door to his parents on Parrotts Piece in Leighton Buzzard. In the late 1840s they moved across the river Ouzel to the neighbouring parish of Linslade in Buckinghamshire, where at least two of their children were born. They appear in Linslade in the 1851 census at a place called Timber Yard on Leighton Road. In 1851 George and his family were also living with his half-sister Elizabeth (from his father's first marriage - George actually had two half-sisters called Elizabeth as his mother also had a daughter Elizabeth from her first marriage). George was working as a lime burner, whilst Ann was working as a straw plaiter.
In the mid 1850s the family returned to Leighton Buzzard. George's father Samuel died in 1857. The 1861 census finds George, Ann and their children living at Steppingstone Road in Leighton Buzzard, with George working as a stone mason's labourer.
George's mother died in 1864.
By 1871 George and Ann had settled on Back Lane in Leighton Buzzard, where they seem to have lived for the rest of their lives, appearing there together in each census from 1871 to 1891. George died on 28th April 1896 at 6 Back Lane, aged 77. Ann survived him by just over ten years.

Baptised same day as brother Samuel. As their parents had only been married six months and they both gave similar ages in the censuses, it is presumed that they were twins.
