George Kempson's origins are unknown. One possibility is that he was the George Kempson baptised at Tilsworth in 1755, although that would make the age quoted at his death eleven years out.

George's first confirmed sighting is on 21st October 1778, when he married Judith Sear at Totternhoe in Bedfordshire. Between 1779 and 1798, George and Judith had nine children baptised at Totternhoe, although one died as a baby.

George's eldest son was married in 1802, and George's first grandchild was born in 1804.

George died in 1815, being buried at Totternhoe on 22nd November 1815. He was said to be 71 years old. He had lived to see at least seven grandchildren, all of whom were baptised at Totternhoe. Judith outlived him by seven years. Nearly forty years after George's death his son William married, and by this time marriage certificates asked for fathers' names and occupations. William reported that George had been a labourer.
