Facts and Events
George Harrison was baptised on 2nd May 1709 at Granby in Nottinghamshire, son of Sarah Harrison, formerly Wood, and her husband George Harrison, a cordwainer. George was their seventh of nine children, although he was the eldest boy. His two younger siblings both died young, making him the youngest who survived to adulthood. In 1728, when George was nineteen years old, his mother died. George was married on 2nd May 1735, aged 26, to Martha Marrot. They married at Nottingham, fourteen miles west of Granby, but returned to Granby after their marriage. George was described as a shoemaker when they married. George and Martha had three sons baptised at Granby between 1736 and 1744. There were also another four Harrison children baptised at Granby between 1747 and 1754 whose parents are not named in the Bishop's Transcripts - as George and Martha appear to have been the only Harrison couple having children at Granby around this time it is likely that these children were also theirs. George's father died in 1744. George acted as executor and was the residuary legatee for his father's estate. George died at the age of 65, being buried at Granby on 18th December 1774. He left a will, although this has yet to be researched. Martha survived him by just over four years. References
