Martha Marrot's origins have yet to be established. The age given on her marriage licence implies that she was born around 1712. Martha's first confirmed sighting is on 2nd May 1735, when she married a shoemaker called George Harrison in Nottingham. Both were described as living in Granby, about 14 miles east of Nottingham at the time. After their marriage Martha and George settled in Granby, having three sons baptised there between 1736 and 1744. There were also another four Harrison children baptised at Granby between 1747 and 1754 whose parents are not named in the Bishop's Transcripts - as Martha and George appear to have been the only Harrison couple having children at Granby around this time it is likely that these children were also theirs. George died in 1774, aged 65. Martha survived him by just over four years. She was buried at Granby on 17th February 1779, when she was probably about 66 years old. References
