He served in the military in 1836 in Indiana. George was an Ensign in the 78th Regiment, Indiana State Militia He was confirmed in 1840 in Miami County, Indiana. George is listed in the 1840 Federal Census for Miami county as living in Peru and is listed on page 47. He was working as a Lawyer/Judge between 1840 and 1877 in Indiana. He was working as a Carpenter in 1850 in Peru, Miami, Iowa. In the Peru, Miami, Indiana Census taken on the 31st of July in 1850 George listed his occupation as that of a Carpenter. He died on 18 May 1877 in Peru, Miami, Indiana. Georges 1st marriage was on the 10th of July in 1831 to Nancy Pursell. His will dated in 1877 showed his wife named Mary. George was a large land owner owning most of the lots in Peru, Indiana. George was also a Judge and a contractor and he built most of the large buildings at the time including the Court House in 1860. His home was on Market Street and was still in his family in 1933 being occupied by a great grand niece Mrs H. E. Fry who was the daughter of his great nephew Frank W. Neff. The 1850 Census for Miami County showed that George and Nancy had real estate valued at $2300.00. He was a promoter of Methodism in the Miami County and mostly financed the building of a church. Georges will is dated the 24 of April in 1877 and was recorded in Peru, Indiana on the 30th of June in 1877. There is no record of George ever having any children. When Georges father passed away in 1854 he left two $100.00 legacies in his will. The 1850 Census shows that a boy of 5 years old named Alvan F. Slutisman born in Indiana living with them. Parents: Ebenezer Ross FENIMORE Sr and Mary REA (?). He was married to Nancy PURSELL on 10 Jul 1831 in , Ross, Ohio. The marriage was performed by John Jenkins on 10 July 1831. George's last name was spelled as Finamore. The License application registry dated 4th of July 1831 spells the last name as Finnimore.
