From “Register of the Society of Writers to her Majesty’s Signet”, pub. Edinburgh 1983: George Dunlop (reg. 23jun1807) apprentice to David Balfour, 2nd son of James Dunlop of Garnkirk, b. 6sep1776 (!), married 2sep1807 Isobel (d. 27apr1837), 2nd daughter of William Simpson of Ogle, Angus. George died 6dec1852. Scottish archives have the will of George Dunlop, Writer to the Signet, residing at Edinburgh, reg. Edinburgh 14feb1855, and the inventory of George, died at Edinburgh. George, writer to the Signet, lived in 1841 at Hermiston House, Currie, Midlothian, with Isabella (b.1811) and George (b.1816) and 6 servants (census). From “The Burgesses and guild brethren of Glasgow 1751-1846” (Scottish record society, 1935): reg. 4 nov 1839 - George Dunlop, W.S., qua merchant, as younger son to dec. James Dunlop of Garnkirk, Burgess and guild brethren.
