According to the will (1836, Midlothian) of Jane Russell, nee Simpson, sister of Capt. William Simpson, Portsmouth and Mrs. Isabella Simpson or Dunlop, spouse of George Dunlop, W.S., Isabella was daughter of William Simpson, who was of Ogle, Forfarshire. From “Register of the Society of Writers to her Majesty’s Signet”, pub. Edinburgh 1983: George Dunlop (reg. 23jun1807) apprentice to David Balfour, 2nd son of James Dunlop of Garnkirk, b. 6sep1776 (!), married 2sep1807 Isobel (d. 27apr1837), 2nd daughter of William Simpson of Ogle, Angus. George died 6dec1852. George, writer to the Signet, lived in 1841 at Hermiston House, Currie, Midlothian, with Isabella (b.1811) and George (b.1816) and 6 servants (census).
