    Retired McComb Farmer Dies

    George Fred Byal, 69, of Pleasant Township, a retired farmer and former employee of the Ohio Engineering Co., died in his home at 10:45 a.m. Sunday of a complication of diseases. He had been in failing health two years.

    Born in Blanchard Township Feb. 23, 1896, he was a son of John Melville and Frances (Cornwell) Byal. He married Leola Crumrine may 29, 1917, and she is living.

    Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Albert (Betty) Endrek and Mrs. Elton (Marcella) Shoemaker, both of McComb; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Fern Whetstone, Washington, D.C., and Mrs. Charles (Gladys) Pendleton, Jersey City.

    A son, Doyle, was killed in World War II and a brother, Lester, also preceded him in death. Mr. Byal was a member of First Christian Church, Findlay, and a charter member of Mullford-Butler Legion Post, McComb. He was a veteran of World War I.

    Services were held in the Jones funeral Home at 3 p.m. Tuesday, the Rev. Ronald Murphy officiated. Burial was in McComb Cemetery.

    Graveside rites were in charge of the Legion.
