    Lt. Doyle Byal, 23 yrs. old, of McComb, B-25 pilot in the 405th bombardment
    squadron, 38 bombardment group, based at Fukuoka, Japan met his death Dec. 26,
    1945 when his aircraft plunged into the sea off the island of Iwo Shima, while
    on a routine flight.
    Notice of his death was received by his wife, Mrs. Eleanor white Byal, of McComb
    in a letter from Lieutenant Byal's commanding officer.
    Lieutenant Byal, born Oct. 1, 1922, married Miss Eleanor J. White on March 21,
    1942. There is one child, James Frederick, born July 9, 1945, whom Lieutenant
    Byal had never seen.
    Besides his wife and child, he is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. G. F.
    Byal and two sisters, Mrs. A. J. Endrek and Mrs. Elton Shoemaker, all of McComb.

    Mrs. G. F. Byal is the former Miss Leola Crumrine.
    Lieutenant Byal, a former truck driver for Hancock county, had resided on East
    Main Cross St. at the time of his entry into the service, June 30, 1942.
    He was an installation engineer for the Surface Combustion company, Kankakee,
    Ill.
    He received his basic training at Biloxi, Miss. and further training at Maxwell
    Field, Ala. After being commissioned, at Columbus, Miss. he was sent to
    Greenville, S.C., for B-25 training.
    On June 27, 1945, he was sent overseas to the Philippine islands and to Okinawa,
    moving on to Japan Nov. 29, 1945.
