Fanny Kempson was baptised on 7th January 1810 at Totternhoe in Bedfordshire, daughter of Rebecca Kempson, formerly Turnham, and her husband George Kempson. she was the fourth of thirteen children. In 1833 her mother died.

On 7th February 1836, Fanny married James Turney, an agricultural labourer, in the neighbouring village of Eaton Bray. They had a daughter, Rebecca, the following year, but sadly she died as a baby. In 1840 they had a son, Thomas, who was born at Stanbridge, a few miles north of Eaton Bray, but baptised in the nearby town of Luton. The 1841 census finds James, Fanny and their son Thomas living at Summer Leys back in Eaton Bray, with James working as an agricultural labourer. Fanny and James do not appear to have had any more children after Thomas.

The 1851 census finds Fanny and James still living at Eaton Bray with their son Thomas and an elderly Sarah Turney. Fanny was working as a straw plaiter at this time.

Fanny died in 1854, aged 44. James survived her by three years.
