Esther was born March 16, 1922 in Carter, Montana to John and Ida (Muller) Mayer. John Mayer had homesteaded near Carter in 1909. Esther attended school in Carter and High School in Fort Benton, Montana, graduated from Western Montana College at Dillon in 1942, and earned a degree in business administration from the University of Montana in 1948.
On June 18, 1950 she married Palmer Maurice Kronen in Missoula, Montana. They resided in Kalispell and Great falls before returning to Missoula in 1952. Two years later they established Palmer's Drug store in Missoula.
Esther began her teaching career in Jordan, spending a year there. She also taught at Paxson School for four years, at Whitefish High School for two years and later at Franklin School for four years.
She was an active member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and was also active in the ALCW. She belonged to the Sons of Norway.
She was survived by her husband, Palmer, Missoula, a son John, Buffalo, N.Y.; a daughter Katherine Kronen, Missoula; a brother Vernon John Mayer, Sunnyside, WA.; and several nieces and nephews.
