He was born in Plentywood, one of twins born to Nils and Mary Kronen. Graduated from Plentywood High School in 1941. Attended Concordia Colege in Moorhead, Minnesota, then the University of Montana. Served in the US Army during WW11 (1945-1946) and was in Okinawa when the atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. After the war he was stationed in Japan until discharge. Returning to Montana, graduating in Pharmacy in 1950. Palmer Maurice Kronen married Esther Marie Mayer, a teacher, on June 18, 1950, in Missoula County, Montana. In 1954 he and his wife Esther Marie (Mayer) opened Palmers Drug store in Missoula. They have two adopted children: Kathy Marie & John Douglas Kronen. His wife Esther Marie died from cancer October 28, 1987. In December 1989, Palmer married Anne Waltermire, a nurse at St. Patrick Hospital. Palmer served on several boards, including the Montana Board of Pharmacists, Community Medical Center Board and the Missoula Elementary School Board. He was past president of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Lutheran Social Services No. 13 Adoption Agency and the Sentinel Kiwanis Club. Professionally, he won Montana Pharmacist of the Year in 1970, the Bowl of Hygeia award for Montana from the A.H. Robins Pharmaceutical Co. in 1975 and the Family Pharmacist Father Ravalli Good Samaritan Award in 1984.

MISSOULA – A joint memorial service for Anne and Palmer Kronen will be held Saturday, July 19, at 11 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church. Anne passed away June 18, 2014, in Missoula at the age of 90, and Palmer passed earlier in the year, on April 21, 2014, also at age 90.
