They married at Sidlesham, but then settled in Hunston, where they had a son named Henry in 1835, a son named John in 1836, a son named Ephraim in 1838 and a daughter named Mary Ann in 1840. The 1841 census finds the family living at Church Lane in Hunston, with Ephraim working as an agricultural labourer.

Ephraim died in 1842, being buried at Hunston on 9th December 1842. He was 29 years old. Lucy was pregnant at the time: their son Charles was baptised the following month. Lucy remarried just over three years after Ephraim's death.
