Facts and Events
I believe she was the daughter of Henry and Mary Ann Mattingly, based on the information that Martha Mattingly Shankland adopted Lulu Wheat, her sister's daughter. There are marriage records for Elizabeth Mattingly who married William Fowler in 1842, Elizabeth Fowler who married Hezekiah Wheat in 1849, and Elizabeth Wheat who married Patrick Mudd in 1865. I believe she had 4 children with William Henry Fowler (1823-1847): John 1843-1868 and Thomas H. 1848-1914; and 5 children by Hezekiah K. Wheat (~1821 -1862): Mary Laura 1849 m. Eli T. Jones; Regina Virginia 1853, Joseph 1856, Virginia Lucinda 'Lulu' 1859 m. Stephen Mills, and Hezekiah 1861. I believe her youngest daughter is the Lucinda Wheat who was adopted by her sister Martha Mattingly and husband Samuel T. Shankland. In the 1850 census for Union, Fulton Co., Illinois, Hezekia Wheat is 28 KY, farmer; with Elizabeth 24 KY. NOTE: I have not found Elizabeth's sons John and Thomas Fowler in this census. In the 1860 census for Union, Fulton Co., Illinois, Hezekiah Wheat is 39 born Kentucky, farmer; Elizabeth is 34 b. KY, [stepsons] John [Fowler] 17; and Thomas [Fowler] 13; [their children] Mary 10; Regina 7; Joseph 4; and Virginia 1 -- all born Illinois. {p. 802} NOTE: This is the same page as her parents. In the 1870 census for Jefferson, Monroe Co., Missouri, Patrick Mudd is 67 born Maryland, farmer; with Elizabeth 44 b. KY; Laura 19; [Regina?] Virginia 16; Joseph 14; and Hezekiah [Wheat] 9 -- all born Illinois. {p. 615} In the 1880 census for Washington, Vernon Co., Missouri, Eli T. Jones is 31 b. Kentucky, 'Larrow' is 29 b. Illinois; Clara E. is 4 and Maud L. 1 -- both born Missouri. George Harvin is 27 from MO, laborer. Mother-in-law E. Mudd is 54, born Kentucky, widow. {p. 495d} There is a record of Elizabeth P. Mudd, 1826-1885, buried in St. Augustine Cemetery in Union. Her sons Thomas and John Fowler, first two husbands, and her parents are also buried there. {Knox Co. ILGenWeb, <http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilknox/cemeteries/StAugustine_a-c.htm>} |
