Based on various sources, I believe Henry and Mary Ann may have had as many as 9 children: Mary Elizabeth 1826 who married William Fowler in 1842, Hezekiah Wheat in 1849, and Patrick Mudd in 1865; Mary Jane 1830-1902 never married; Martha 1832- m. S.T. Shankland; Wm. Henry 1834-?; James Dennis 1838-1865; Lucinda 1838-?; Amanda 1840-1842; Joseph 1843-1847; and Mary Constancia 1845 - ?.

 In the 1850 census for Union, Fulton Co., Illinois, Henry Mattingly is 52, farmer from (MA? MD?) ; Mary Ann 45 (MA? MD?); Mary Jane 20; Martha 17 KY; James 14 Illinois; Lucinda 12 IL; and Mary 5 IL.  His brother Austin and family are next door.
 In the 1860 census for Union, po Augustine, Fulton Co., Illinois, Henry Matingly is 63 from Maryland; Mary 55 MD; Mary 30 Kentucky; James 24 Illinois laborer; Constancia 15 IL; and [brother-in-law?] John Wimsatt 58 from Maryland. {p. 802} He is next door to sister-in-law Mary E. Matingly 52 Virginia [widow of Austin], with sons R. A. 26 and J. L. 20 Illinois. On the same page are Hezekiah Wheat and wife Elizabeth [Mattingly], with children John [Fowler] 17, Thomas [Fowler] 13, Mary 10, Regina 7, Joseph 4, and Virginia 1 -- all born Illinois.
 In the 1870 census for Union, Fulton Co., Illinois, Henry Mattingly is 73 born Maryland, living with daughter Mary 39 born Kentucky.
