In the 1880 census for Laramie City, Albany Co., Wyoming, Joseph Wheat is 24 born Illinois (parents IL) locomotive fireman; and [his brother Hezekiah?] 'Kiah' Wheat is 17 born IL (parents same) 'works in R.R. shop'. They are living in the household of George Byrne 40, born Ireland, blacksmith RR -- possibly a boarding house, as there are 10 railroad workers listed there. {p. 22d}

 I believe he is the Joseph Wheat who married Alice Collins, daughter of James Collins and Mary Lavinia Lancaster, and lived in Seattle.

Feb 1882; Ernest b. Wheat [indexed as 'Whent'] is 53 born Illinois (father Kentucky, mother Maryland), 'motorman - steam locomotive?)', married 29 years; with wife Alice 47 born Kansas (parents Missouri), [number of children not noted]; children are Laura 21 Wyoming 'teacher public school'; Joseph Jr. 18 WY 'wagon driver - ? dealers'; Roy 16 WY 'delivery boy - ??'; Collins 12 WY; Elizabeth 5 Washington; and Howard 2 WA. {ed 195, sh 6b, p. 168, roll 1662 HeritageQuest} Their sons Wilfred, George, and 'E.M' are listed separately in Seattle.
